AN OUTREACH MINISTRY OF THE TEMPLE OF LOVE & REDEMPTION, INC.

PROPHETESS MARLENE BROCKINGTON, FOUNDER

January/February 2004

Greetings from the Founder!

Praise the Lord!

Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ!  I am elated that we have made it into yet another month to share with you what God has given us in hopes that it will edify the Body of Christ.

I'd like to personally thank all of you who joined us in December 2003 for the Revival Conference - it was a tremendous blessing and encouragement.  We are looking forward to seeing you throughout the year for our fellowship services.

Continue to keep us in your prayers as we endeavor to do the will of Christ!  Until our next issue - may God keep and fortify you all.

Men's Relationship

KEEPING IT REAL - ABUSE!

Our primary goal for this ministry and any other task that we put our hands to is to KEEP IT REAL!   Abuse is very prevalent in the life of many - even the believers.  In order to tackle your problem you must first admit that you have a problem.

There are several forms of abuse, two of the most common are verbal and physical.  Let's explore this topic and prayerfully gain the victory over the enemy by helping one another to overcome:

What is abuse?  Abuse is the deliberate act of causing physical or mental suffering on the spouse. It usually occurs when they are in conflict or unable to control their own emotion. The problem of wife abuse is more serious than that of husband abuse and therefore the husband becomes the major abuser. However, the cases of husband abuse are on a rise recently.

Some causes of abuseThere are plenty of factors that contribute to spouse abuse. The common factors include:

  1. Extramarital affair
  2. Unemployment
  3. Work pressure
  4. Financial worries
  5. Excessive drinking and drug abuse

Are you abusive?  Answer the following questions below (yes or no):

To check if you are an abusive husband, please recall if you had behaved in any of the following ways towards your wife in the past:

1

Verbally abused your wife

2

Threatened your wife

3

Hurt your wife with weapons

4

Prevented your wife from going out to work

5

Prevented your wife from managing the domestic finance

6

Prevented your wife from having enough money to deal with the basic needs of life

7

Slapped your wife

8

Struck and kicked your wife

9

Forced your wife to have sex with you

If you answer "Yes" to any of the above questions, you may have already abused your wife in different ways.

Women, don't be fooled (we know you login and read this to), if you have treated your husband in any of the above ways you to are an abuser.

Tips for preventing abuseFirst and foremost we must seek the face of God!  He is the only one that can change our bad ways (habits).  Most often we inherit our behavior from our parents and those we call friends (associates).

  1. Avoid accumulating too much negative feeling or bringing with you the distress from work after getting home. You should frankly tell your wife the difficulties you encounter so as to enhance the understanding of each other.
  2. To forgive your wife does not mean that you have to lose your dignity. It shows your magnanimity to tolerate her shortcomings.
  3. Tolerate and forbear more, criticize and complain less.
  4. Relationship counseling.
